Logistics 5 Logistics and mobility of the future New technologies in practice Intelligent mobility is characterised by networking, automation and electrification. New technologies and concepts are being developed, tested and used for all four modes of transport in the German Capital Region. On the test track in Groß Dölln (Uckermark), for example, Siemens has been testing the use of overhead contact lines for the electrification of hybrid lorries on motorways for several years. Logistics companies are using more and more lorries with alternative drives. Partners from industry and science are planning a test site for self-driving barges on the Spree-Oder waterway. Intelligent solutions for city logistics An efficient flow of goods is essential for the competitiveness and quality of life in urban areas and cities. This is particularly true for extremely dense inner city areas such as in Berlin. The role of micro-hubs and alternative vehicle concepts is becoming increasingly significant for the last mile. The Berlin Agency for Electromobility, eMO, supports companies in the development and implementation of innovative concepts for logistics. Green logistics The Process and Coordination Service Unit “E-mobiles Brandenburg” provides information about energy-efficient and sustainable commerce, advises on funding oppor tun ities, and actively promotes related projects in Brandenburg such as the eMO in Berlin. The use of electric drive technologies in the logistics sector (battery-powered and hydrogen with fuel cells), the development of innovative business models, green logistics solutions, and the cre ation of a more suitable charging infrastructure are all supported by the service unit. Railway innovation campus The land surrounding the shunting yard in Wustermark is being developed into a railway technology campus. A development zone boasting 24 hectares, this will expand the Berlin-West Wustermark freight village and offer excellent premises for rail-based companies. The site will be home to centres for science and training in technical railway occupations with a variety of qualifications and development opportunities for the skilled workers of tomorrow. This is where the foundation for strategic cooperation of teaching and research with the companies is being laid. Drones in logistics Unmanned flight offers attractive solutions for a range of logistical tasks. These range from the simple camera drone, to the complex monitoring of shipping containers in outside areas and the automated inventory of high rack systems. Indoors, the future will increasingly see drones being used for the transport of goods. The CURPAS e.V. Network connects operators, manufacturers, users and scientific institutions internationally to integrate the newest applications into the logistics chain in a profitable and competitive way. Strong partners In cooperation with the Cluster management, the LNBB LogistikNetz Berlin-Brandenburg supports companies from production, trade and services in terms of infrastructure, logistics solutions, business models, process consulting and funding opportunities. LNBB has an international reach due to its close cooperation with TH Wildau and international universities. The open Berlin-Brandenburg regional group of the Federal Association of Logistics acts as a knowledge network and facilitates intersector exchange.
